Choosing the Right Home Stager

You’re almost to the finish line and ready to list your home for sale but one thing is missing – staging.  These days, home stagers are plentiful in the real estate world so where does one start to choose the right stager in order to sell quickly and achieve the ultimate return on investment?

Green Key Neighborhoods believes building and maintaining strong relationships can carry your business to success every time, which is why we ask our business colleagues for recommendations first.

One of the most reliable ways to find a well qualified stager is to ask fellow developers, listing agents, brokers and friends in the business for recommendations.  Compile a list and from there you can begin interviews.

Check Social Media and other sites such as Houzz

Instagram, Facebook and local rating sites such as Houzz and Yelp can also be a great resource for compiling a list of stagers to begin interviewing.  The added advantage to looking through these sites is you can see pictures of the stagers work. This will give you a good idea of what the stager is capable of and the types of projects they have experience working on.

Location, location, location.  Home staging does not have a standard for pricing just like home prices change based on location.  As a rule, most stagers charge based on the scope of work and length of time the home will be staged.  For example, some stagers charge for three separate steps in the staging process: initial consultation, delivery and installation of furniture and home supplies, and the monthly fee for rental of the staging furniture and supplies.

Be sure to have a budget in mind based off of your project’s needs before interviewing a stager.

Similar to builders and realtors who specify working within a specific niche in the housing industry, so do home stagers.  You want to find someone that works in similar price range and style to your project.

Take a step back and evaluate the style of the home you’re trying to list.  Is it a mountain cabin, beachside villa or multi-million dollar modern in the city?  Find a stager who works within the same niche of your home and start by interviewing them first.
